Walk of the Hermitages of Lloret
Castle of Sant Joan
An ideal location to enjoy fantastic panoramic views over the entire town of Lloret de Mar.
Located on top of the mountain that separates the Lloret de Mar and Fenals beaches is an iconic mountain built in the 11th century CE.
First records of the fort date back to 1041. Its construction was driven by the need to defend the town from enemies arriving by sea. Over the centuries, it lasted through numerous battles and even an earthquake in the 15th century that affected a large part of the Girona region.
The Battle of Trafalgar in the 19th century left the castle abandoned and in ruins. In 1965, restoration works began on the remains of the original castle, but it wasn’t until 1983 that the Town Council obtained permission to rebuild the tower, which can be visited today.
