Girona and fortified towns
130 km circular route through fishing, agricultural and craft towns until you reach Girona and its large old town.
Tossa de Mar
Its Old Town is one of the most impressive medieval witnesses in existence and is listed as a national historical-artistic monument. Almost the entire walled perimeter, built between the 12th and 14th centuries to defend the local population from pirate raids, is preserved.
Three large cylindrical defense towers stand out on the wall and at the highest point you will see a beautiful landscape of the bay of this idyllic town on the Catalan coast.
It is currently the only example of a fortified medieval town that still exists on the Catalan coast.
The best-known towers are the Torre d'en Joanàs, which presides over the bay; the Torre de las Horas, located at the entrance to the parade ground, which owes its name to the fact that it was the only place where a public clock was located; and the tower of es Codolar, also known as the Torre del Homenaje, which presides over the beach of es Codolar.
The interior of the Vila Vella is a charming space of narrow alleys paved with cobblestones that, at the time of its maximum splendor (15th century), integrated about eighty houses, many of which took advantage of the wall of the wall as a back wall. .
